Pure nature!

Lake Starnberg

Lake Starnberg – also known as Lake Würm – is the second largest lake in Bavaria after Lake Chiemsee. While the north shore near Starnberg enchants with its unique alpine panorama, which beautifully frames the lake, the south shore near Seeshaupt scores with sandy flat ground and beautiful beaches.

Inland, gentle hills with lush green meadows stretch. Embedded in it are centuries-old farms, traditional beer gardens serving Bavarian specialties and picturesque churches with the typical onion domes.

Pure nature is offered by the Bernrieder Filz, the oldest moor reserve in Bavaria, and the Osterseen nature reserve. It is said that the lakes, shimmering from azure blue to turquoise green, are the tears of Lake Starnberg.

A wide range of leisure activities
between active holidays and culture

Lake Starnberg was a popular destination for summer visitors from the nearby city of Munich early on. The Bavarian King Ludwig II and his great cousin Sissi, the Empress of Austria, were also frequent guests here. Many places associated with the couple are located directly on Lake Starnberg and some of them can be visited.

Nowadays, the lake offers its visitors a wide range of water sports: swimming, sailing, surfing, stand-up paddling, diving, fishing, water skiing, rowing, electric or pedal boating, there is something for everyone.

The waterfront promenade invites you to stroll and in the cafés and restaurants you can enjoy the famous Bavarian hospitality in addition to the enchanting view over the lake and mountains.

In Bernried, the author Lothar-Günther Buchheim has fulfilled his dream of the “Buchheim Museum of Fantasy”. In the Carl Orff Museum, you can experience the work and life of the famous composer.
